Enhancing Effects of Sludge Biochar on Aerobic Granular Sludge for Wastewater Treatment

چکیده

Sludge biochar can be used as bio-carrier to enhance aerobic granular sludge, however, its impact on the formation and especially long-term stability of granules has not been fully investigated. In this paper, sludge was cultivated in two parallel sequencing batch reactors (SBRs), R1 R2, with without addition activated inoculum, respectively. The characteristics, wastewater treatment performance, microbial community structure were examined a 240-day operation, during which experienced dynamic changes including granule formation, maturation, breakage, filamentous proliferation, recovery. Aerobic formed weeks earlier than that presenting larger mean size, higher settling ability biomass retention maturation period. Concurrently, showed denitrification over 80% removal efficiency throughout whole operation During period, ratio food (F/M) below 0.5 gCOD/gVSS d while it ranged between 1.0 R2 due lower retention. elemental analysis more Ca P accumulation from R1, 3% 2.75% 0.91% 0.75% had richness, diversity, excretion extracellular polymer substances (EPSs) abundance denitrifying genera supporting performance. These results demonstrated by using carrier for granulation speed up improve granules. findings disclosed enhancing effects suggesting potential practical application sludge-based reactors.

Textile wastewater treatment: aerobic granular sludge vs activated sludge systems.

Textile effluents are characterised by high content of recalcitrant compounds and are often discharged (together with municipal wastewater to increase their treatability) into centralized wastewater treatment plants with a complex treatment scheme. This paper reports the results achieved adopting a granular sludge system (sequencing batch biofilter granular reactor - SBBGR) to treat mixed munic...

AquaNereda Aerobic Granular Sludge Technology Aerobic Granular Sludge

This advanced nutrient removal process can reduce footprint up to 75% and energy up to 50% when compared to conventional activated sludge systems. One of the defining characteristics of the granule is rapid settling which in turn allows for an increase in the biomass concentration. The granules are comprised of true biomass and do not require carriers. The layered microbial community that forms...

Aerobic granular sludge

In recent years, a significant part of research on wastewater treatment has focussed on development of compact systems. Wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) can be designed compact when biomass is maintained in the system without the use of conventional settling tanks as in flocculated activated sludge systems. Examples are developments in the field of Membrane BioReactors, Biological Aerated Fil...

Expanded granular sludge bed bioreactor in wastewater treatment

The expanded granular sludge bed bioreactor appears today as a cheap, robust and more popular technology because it operates using a fluidized bed, which allows increasing in organic load and in cell retention times, generating higher treatment efficiencies (up to 95 %) and renewable energy (i.e., biogas, biomethane, and biohydrogen). Nevertheless, the efficiency of this bioreactor mainly depen...
